El Savlador’s controversial decision to integrate bitcoin as a legal tender currency, make state-financed bitcoin investments and offer technical support for bitcoin integration throughout the country was met with cheers from the crypto community and disdain from organizations like the World Bank.

But Bukele has continued to be an outspoken advocate for bitcoin as a decentralized asset that offers a country like El Salvador the chance to escape U.S. dollar dominance.

His post on X this morning seemed aimed at critics and to double down on his conviction that bitcoin is a suitable, long-term treasury asset for his country despite its short-term price volatility.

“El Salvador’s bitcoin investments are in the black,” he wrote. “After literally thousands of articles and hit pieces that ridiculed our supposed losses, all of which were calculated based on bitcoin’s market price at the time…”
